“I used to have insomnia.”

One day, I decided to change, to improve myself. I tried really hard to sleep early and wake up early in the morning. It took some time for me to change, but I kept motivating myself to do it, to get back the old me that used to be kind to everyone.

Dr. Jan's Corner

My boyfriend and I fight constantly. He calls me a multitude of awful names. His friends call me names too. He sometimes hits and slaps me but I think he's just playing around. A few days ago, when we were fighting, he yanked my hair and pulled me by it. We fight nearly every other day and he's very verbally abusive, but I feel like I deserve it. I have no idea what I need to do or what I should be doing. I love him despite all of this but I'm not sure what he does and says is right.

Summer Heat Warning: Protect Yourself from Heat Illness

With summer temperatures rising, health officials are reminding everyone to take precautions against heat-related illness. High heat and humidity make it harder for the body to cool itself, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Teens, athletes, young children, and people with health conditions are especially at risk.

To stay safe, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid outdoor activity during peak heat hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Spend time in air-conditioned places when possible, and never leave people or pets in parked cars. Staying informed and prepared can prevent serious health problems.

How do you unwind when you're stressed?

The claim that alcohol-based hand sanitizers kill 99.9 percent of germs that cause disease is misleading. According to infectious disease experts at the Cleveland Clinic, this number is based on research conducted in ideal laboratory conditions rather than from everyday use, and overlooks situations that decrease effectiveness like dirty ar oily hands, not applying enough sanitizer, and using sanitizer that has an alcohol content lower than 60 percent. In addition, some kinds of germs and parasites are resistant to hand sanitizer. In general, hand sanitizer is only preferable when thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water isn’t feasible.
